Jonathan raced through the old hallways of the abandoned vessel.  They had just recently found this ship abandoned and crawling with members of the rebellion.  As usual, Jonathan was at the back of the regiment since he no longer had an A.I..  Humans had managed to create successful A.I.'s that could communicate and work with the humans.  At birth, each human had a small chip implanted in their minds where the A.I.'s data was stored.  Because of the A.I.'s, many advances had been made in science and nano-machines had been created.  The nano-machines made it impossible for disease to thrive in a human body, however this did not protect the A.I.'s.  The absence of human diseases created something that many considered worse.  Should an A.I. contract a virus, the virus would affect the human as well as the A.I..  This is what happened to Jonathan's A.I. T.E.S.S.A..  They had picked up a virus from the rebellion and unfortunately, T.E.S.S.A. had not survived.  By some miracle however, Jonathan had.  Now he was sent on missions as a means to save any A.I.'s who's human fell in battle.  The A.I. would transfer it's data to his empty A.I. slot and he would return the A.I. to the government where it would be placed in a new human.  Jonathan had assumed that this mission would be like all the others against the rebellion, he had been wrong.  There were more rebels than they had expected and the regiment had been scattered.  Jonathan heard gun fire ahead of him and he recognized it as the standard mecha rapid fire rifle given to his regiment.  Jonathan opened a panel on his left arm to open up a passage for an A.I..  A small sound played in his helmet, letting him know the passage was ready to accept an A.I..  Jonathan began running towards the gun fire when an explosion shook the entire vessel.  Jonathan lost his balance and as he fell, the open panel in his suit slammed into some exposed wires for an old computer.  The force with which Jonathan slammed into the ground caused him to black out, but not before he dimly heard a voice confirming the presence of an A.I. within his system.

"Jonathan?  Jonathan!"  Jonathan groaned as he began to come around.  He knew that it was a woman shouting his name, but his mind was far to foggy to connect the voice with a name or face.  If not for the fact that he was still so groggy, he would have been very surprised when a female voice spoke softly inside of his mind.

"Running recovery sequence, activating."  Within seconds Jonathan was able to think clearly.  He tried to sit up, only to be pushed back down.  Within his range of vision, a red haired woman appeared, concern written all over her face.  It was Erica, his regiments leader.  Jonathan frowned slightly.

"Who died?"  It was Erica's turn to frown now as she narrowed her vibrant blue eyes.

"What are you talking about Jonathan?  We suffered injuries but we were also lucky enough not to lose anyone."  Jonathan shook his head.

"That can't be.  I'm fairly certain that I picked up an A.I. while we were there."  Surprise crossed Erica's face.

"Could it be one of the rebels?  Do you remember when you absorbed the A.I.?"  Jonathan shook his head.

"I don't know if it's a rebels A.I. or not, but I absorbed it right before I blacked out."  Erica nodded.

"Tell me everything that happened within the few moments before you blacked out."  Jonathan nodded before he took a moment to re-gather his thoughts.

"I heard gun fire and so I opened up the passage for an A.I. to come through.  Once I had confirmation that the passage was open, I began running towards the fight when that explosion hit the vessel.  I fell and the panel hit some exposed wires for an old computer.  That's just about when I started blacking out, but I did hear my suit confirm the presence of an A.I. within my system."  Erica bit her lip, she had no idea where this strange A.I. had come from.  Finally she shook her head, she had more important things to focus on.

"Do you think you can stand?"  Jonathan nodded and Erica helped him up off the ground.  As Jonathan looked around, he realized that they were still in the vessel, and they were alone.

"Lieutenant, where is everyone else?"  Erica bit her lip lightly.

"They've been captured, that's our next job, getting our comrades back."  Jonathan nodded as Erica took the lead.  The vessel was eerily silent and Jonathan had a very bad feeling about the direction they were going when Erica suddenly dropped out of sight with a scream.  The floor had opened up beneath her and quickly closed behind her.  Jonathan jumped on the floor and tried everything he could think of to get it to open again, but it wouldn't.  Jonathan collapsed to his knees, his hope dwindling.  A voice chimed into his head, startling him.

"She's been sent to the bridge where all of your comrades are as well.  Would you like directions on how to get there?"  Jonathan's heart was racing as he realized it was the A.I. that he had picked up.  Jonathan scowled slightly.

"Who are you?"  He waited patiently for the voice to reply.

"My name is S.I.R.E., Scientific Infantry Research Electronic."  Jonathan groaned.

"Great, I picked up a research A.I., that's not gonna be very helpful."  S.I.R.E. chimed in once again.

"To get to the bridge, you must head down to hallway F11, at the end of that hallway I can summon an elevator."  Jonathan grew confused.

"You can summon an elevator?"

"But of course, I was designed as a part of this ship, even though other A.I.'s have taken control over most of it, there are still some parts that I can control."  Jonathan sighed and stood up.

"Alright then, lets go."  Jonathan began running down the halls, the sooner he got to the lieutenant and the others, the better.  Jonathan had just rounded a corner when he froze in his tracks.  Before him were at least a dozen rebels.  Jonathan took a nervous step back as the rebels grinned at each other, preparing to charge.

"S.I.R.E.?  Do you know any other routes?"

"No, but this is no problem, you simply have to use the teleportation devices."  Jonathan frowned.

"What teleportation devices?!"  The armor on his arms began shifting, like they would for someone with a soldier A.I..  The armor shifted into to strange looking guns that were smooth and white.  S.I.R.E. chimed into Jonathans head again.

"If you'll excuse the crudeness, I shall show you how they work."  Jonathan felt S.I.R.E. take control of the armor itself.  One of the guns fired to a spot beneath the rebels where the air began to shimmer.  S.I.R.E. moved his other arm and pointed at the top of an empty elevator shaft.  Suddenly the rebels were falling through the floor beneath them and down the empty elevator shaft to their deaths.  S.I.R.E. then fired again with the second gun at a point down at the end of the hallway and used the first to shoot at Jonathan's feet.  Jonathan fell through the portal and ended up where the other one was placed.  He could only stand there stunned for a moment, whatever this A.I. was, it came with some heavy equipment.  Jonathan cleared his throat.

"S.I.R.E., is there anything else I should know that could be helpful?"  S.I.R.E. was silent for so long that Jonathan thought she didn't have anymore information.  He was just about to head for the elevator when S.I.R.E. spoke.

"There is a laser, it's generally used to judge distance, but I could alter it so that it will be strong enough to cut through things."  Jonathan nodded.

"Please do so."  Jonathan soon reached the elevator which was already waiting for him.  He stepped into it and the door closed behind him.  The elevator shook as it began to climb upwards.  Jonathan shifted uneasily as it moved.  Within moments the elevator stopped and opened it's doors.  Cautiously Jonathan stepped out and glanced around, he couldn't see any rebels.

"Hey S.I.R.E., are you sure we're in the right place?"

"Positive, the doors ahead of you are locked however."  Jonathan groaned.

"Great, well how do we get into the bridge then?"

"Look up."  Jonathan did so and saw an opening in the wall.

"You expect me to climb through there?"

"No, shoot a portal through there and then another on a wall in here.  From there you can lean through the portal and see your comrades."  Jonathan tensed.

"Are we sure that's safe?"

"Yes, it has been tested with many subjects before you."  Jonathan blew a breath out before shaking his head.

"Well, here goes nothing."  Jonathan shot the portals like S.I.R.E. had told him and he leaned through the one on his side of the door.  Just as S.I.R.E. had said, he could see his regiment.  An idea occurred to Jonathan.

"Hey S.I.R.E., is that laser ready yet?"

"Yes, would you like to deploy it?"  Jonathan smirked as he aimed with the gun on his left arm.

"Yeah, that would be real helpful."  S.I.R.E. activated the laser and it hummed quietly.

"To fire the laser, simply act as if you are firing a portal.  This will not create any portals for the time being."  Jonathan nodded and fired.  He managed to cut through four rebels before they figured out where the shots were coming from.  They began working on opening the door as his regiment looked up at him in confusion.

"I've altered the armor on your legs to act like long fall boots.  So long as you land on your feet, you should survive a fall from just about any distance."  Jonathan smirked again.

"Thanks S.I.R.E., I think I'm gonna need that."  They had just opened the doors to the bridge when Jonathan jumped through the portal.  Quickly he shot at the chains holding his regiment hostage and they broke easily.  His regiment rallied quickly and drove the rebels out of the bridge.  Erica glanced at Jonathan as the regiment focused on securing the doors.

"Jonathan, just how did you do that?"  Jonathan began blushing.

"It's the A.I. that I picked up.  It's a research A.I. and it modified a few of it's settings to help me.  The A.I. came from this vessel too, that's how I knew where you were as well."  Erica frowned.

"Can this A.I. possibly get just the bridge out of here?  I already looked and the bridge is meant to detach from the rest of the vessel if necessary."  Jonathan shrugged.

"I don't know, hey S.I.R.E.?  Can you detach and fly just the bridge out of here?"  S.I.R.E. took a bit of time to respond which made the entire regiment nervous.

"If I can be connected to the main computer frame, then I should be able to do so."  Jonathan turned and relayed the message to Erica who ordered that some wires be brought in.  A few other soldiers had A.I.'s specialized in hacking so they provided the means for S.I.R.E. to access the main computer.  Jonathan had never done anything like this before so it felt strange to him.  Several minutes passed by before there was a hiss.  The bridge was beginning to become detached from the rest of the vessel.  Slowly it began power up and monitors began turning on.  Nobody in the regiment knew what the monitors were saying since the programming was so old.  The was a jerk as the bridge began to take to the air.  S.I.R.E.'s voice came through the intercom speaker within the bridge.

"What is our destination?"  Erica smirked now, pleased that this old A.I. had come through for them.

"We're heading for our own ship, the Celestria."

òÕò

It took almost an hour for the Celestria to enter the regiments field of vision and once it did, S.I.R.E.'s voice came over the intercom system again.

"There is an incoming transmission.  Shall I play it?"  Erica looked at the monitor that Jonathan was connected too.

"Yes S.I.R.E., go ahead."  There was a bit of static as the transmission came through.

"This is Second Lieutenant Kevin Stalks, please state your name before coming any closer to his majesty's ship the Celestria or you will be fired upon."  Erica glanced over at Jonathan, but she spoke to S.I.R.E..

"S.I.R.E., how do we reply?"  S.I.R.E. promptly replied.

"There is a silver button on the control panel to Jonathans right that will allow you to reply."  Erica nodded and stepped over to the control panel and pressed the button.

"Second Lieutenant Stalks, this is Lieutenant Erica Strongholst.  We have commandeered the bridge of the abandoned vessel we found and need space for docking."  Stalks voice replied after a moment.

"Alright Lieutenant, we've prepared room for the bridge to dock in the lower section of J, hanger number 338."  Erica pressed the button again.

"Thank you Stalks, we'll see you in a few moments."

òÕò

Stalks whistled long and low when he saw the condition that the bridge was in as it entered the hanger.  It took a few moments for the regiment inside to get the doors open and during that time Jonathan was able to detach S.I.R.E. and himself from the main computer.  Erica approached stalks who saluted his superior as he continued to gaze at the old bridge.

"Just how the hell did you manage to fly this thing?"  Erica smirked.

"It was Jonathan actually.  He picked up an A.I. that belonged to the vessel named S.I.R.E., she was the one who got the bridge running and got us here."  Stalks glanced over at Jonathan who had just exited the bridge.

"You picked up an A.I. from the vessel?"  Jonathan nodded, a bit of a blush rising on his face.

"Um, yes?"  Stalks shook his head as he turned back towards Erica.

"You know what this means.  Jonathan and the rest of your regiment will need to be placed in quarantine until we can determine that this new A.I. is harmless."  Erica nodded sharply.

"I know this Stalks.  However I will dictate out next destination."  Stalks raised an eyebrow at his superior.

"Oh?  And where might that be?"  Erica smirked as she began to head towards the quarantine bay.  She glanced over her shoulder, her blue eyes sparkling with some mischievousness.

"We're going to the lunar base, the castle of our Emperor."

So this is a new story that I had to get out. I'll work on it when I have down time between Huntress and Shadow Spirit.
